What is a Partners HealthCare eVisit (formerly MGH Virtual Visits)?

A Partners HealthCare eVisit, previously called an MGH Virtual Visit, is a set of clinical questions from your doctor that you answer on a secure website. Your doctor then reviews your answers and determines the next course of action. Please note that Partners eVisits are for follow-up care and not for urgent care or immediate medical needs. If you are having a medical emergency, please contact your doctor or call 911 immediately.

Urgent care eVisits are available in some Partners clinics through Patient Gateway. To access Patient Gateway, please click here.

How do I sign up?

Once you and your doctor agree to follow up via a Partners eVisit, a registration email will be sent to the email address that you provide; click the personalized link to access the website. Simply verify your birthdate and create a password.

If you'd like to start using Partners eVisits, please ask your doctor if Partners eVisits are right for you.

How do I complete my Partners eVisit?

When the date of your visit arrives, you'll receive an email prompting you to log in and complete your Partners eVisit. After answering the questions, simply click "Submit" to send your responses to your doctor. You should try to complete your visit within three days, but you have up to seven days to do so.

How can I access my doctor's feedback?

Your doctor will review your answers within one to two business days and reply with a decision regarding next steps. You'll receive an email notification that a clinical determination has been made, and that you need to log in to review your doctor's response. Your clinician may decide to continue your current treatment plan, modify it, or ask you to schedule a phone call or in-office visit.

You may log in to your Partners eVisits account at any time to look over past visits, including previous responses from your doctor, and see any upcoming Partners eVisits that have been scheduled.

What happens after my Partners eVisit?

When your clinician responds to your completed Partners eVisit, they will also indicate next steps - they may decide to continue your current plan, modify it, or ask you to schedule a phone call or in-office visit. Your Partners eVisit will then become a part of your permanent medical record.

Will my insurance be billed for these visits? How much do Partners eVisits cost?

There is no charge for Partners eVisits; your insurance company will not be notified and you will not be charged a copay. However, if your doctor requests that you get blood drawn or that you undergo another diagnostic test associated with your Partners eVisit, you will be billed for those services according to your insurance plan.

Do I need any "special" computer equipment to complete my Partners eVisit?

All you need to successfully complete a Partners eVisit is an internet connection and an email address. Emails are sent to you to remind you of your Partners eVisit appointments or to notify you of a decision or request from your doctor. Your email address serves as your username in order to gain access to the Partners eVisits website. You may log into your Partners eVisit account at any time to review past and future visits.

Is this different than Patient Gateway?

Patient Gateway is an administrative web portal developed by Partners to help patients manage their in-office visits, prescriptions, and communications with their doctor’s office. If you are looking for Patient Gateway, please click here.

Partners eVisits is a separate website that enables eVisits - actual online doctor's visits - to occur. In an eVisit, you will answer questions from your doctor regarding your medical condition, similar to an in-person visit. Please click here to log in to your Partners eVisits account.

Are these eVisits for urgent care (cold, UTI, etc.)?

No, Partners eVisits are not for urgent care, but are follow-up visits for an existing condition. If you would like to contact your doctor online and he/she has not requested a Partners eVisit, please contact your clinician through Patient Gateway. To access Patient Gateway, please click here.

Are Partners eVisits video visits?

Partners eVisits are not video visits. An eVisit simply requires that you answer a set of online questions; if your clinician has requested a video visit with you, that is through another service. MGH offers video visits through their Virtual Visits Program - please click here to learn more.

If you are unsure, please contact your clinic to clarify which service your doctor intends to use.

How would using Partners eVisits enhance my health management?

The Partners eVisits program is meant to function as a tool with which you and your doctor can help manage your care. Partners eVisits are not designed to replace all your in-person office appointments, but are to provide a more convenient option for you: the program aims to ease the hassles of scheduling an appointment, taking off from work and traveling to your doctor's office. Using a secure website, you can continue treatment with your clinician from the comfort of your own home.

You are welcome to schedule an in-person appointment with your physician at any time.

Is my medical information safe?

Yes. We take the safety and security of your medical information very seriously, and store it in a secure IT environment. Access to your medical information is limited to members of your care team to assist you in getting the care or services you request.

Why did Partners develop the eVisit program?

Studies conducted at MGH and elsewhere have shown that Partners eVisit are just as effective as face-to-face appointments for certain medical conditions. These eVisits are not meant to replace all office visits with your physician, but to provide a more convenient option for some aspects of follow-up care. You may schedule a face-to-face visit with your physician at any time.

What happened to MGH Virtual Visits? Is Partners eVisits the same thing?

Yes, Partners eVisits is the same program as MGH Virtual Visits. When the program expanded to include other branches of Partners Healthcare (please click here for a full list of institutions under the Partners umbrella), the name was changed to better reflect the community that Partners eVisits now serves.

If you type our old URL (www.mghvirtualvisits.com) into your browser, you will be redirected to our new site (www.partnersevisits.org). If you have any questions about this transition, please reach out to our staff.
